Minamino set to shine again

Despite failing to prevent his new team from falling to their fifth straight league defeat, Takumi Minamino can still feel positive after scoring on his Southampton debut in the 2-3 loss to Newcastle on Saturday.

The loan player from Liverpool made an instant impact for the Saints by scoring a goal that showcased his perfect ball control and clinical finishing. Minamino also played a crucial part in Newcastle midfielder Jeff Hendrick getting sent off at 49th minute. Hendrick pulled back the Japanese midfielder after failing to match his opponent’s pace.

Overall, Minamino’s first appearance could be said to be a success even though Southampton lost to the the 10-men Magpies.

Minamino’s impressive debut did not only manage to please the Saints’ manager and fans, but also led to Liverpool fans being angry regarding the loan decision on Twitter.

“Lovely taki show, our club why this was a disastrous decision”, “Bring back our minaminoooooooo”, “Ridiculous how we loaned out Minamino and kept Origi madness decision”, “That Minamino would be a good signing tor Liverpool right now, belter goal today”

However, Minamino’s loan move is the perfect solution for all the three parties concerned.

Minamino has made only four starts for the Reds in the Premier League since joining in January 2020. Since he wasn’t getting enough opportunities under Juergen Klopp, it was better for him to seek a team that could build up his match fitness and confidence.

For Southampton, since the assistant coach Richard Kitzbichler has worked with Minamino previously at RB Salzburg, they have the potential to help the 26-year-old forward regain his best form.
